• Residential Building in Barcelona

Design study at the TU-Munich

The task was to build a new residential building on a corner plot that is connected to the outermost edge of a very large garden in the old town of Barcelona - the “Jardins del Forat de la Vergonya". This garden was created in the 1990s to bring more space to this former dark part of the city by demolishing several building blocks of the old town. The proposed volume forms a convex building that pushes itself dynamically into the garden. The two bends and the edge of the volume create tension between the adjacent streets, which is reinforced by the concrete parapets of the façade and its skin of horizontal slats. The floor plan reflects the shape of the building with a continuous loggia around the flats. The ground floor, which houses a dance hall, café, and billiard room, opens up to the public through a large and inviting glass structure.
