The former fortifications of the city of Braunschweig, which today are largely a public park, immediately stand out as a significant element of the city's structure when viewed from the air. It is important to preserve and enhance this public green ring. With the Holwedestraße Clinic becoming available, the green space along the Oker floodplain, along with the existing historical buildings, can be further developed both as a park and as an urban district with high-quality residential options, becoming another link in the city's chain of green spaces.

As part of the glacis, the area extends beyond the floodplain and expands the popular residential district near the Wall. The buildings along Holwedestraße form the western urban edge, while the new district presents itself with a loose, permeable layout toward the Oker and the communal green space, catering to both new and existing residents. Green spaces, water, and social, cultural, and commercial facilities for everyone!

The site's location within the city, by the Oker river, its impressive tree population, and the interesting historical buildings make it a prime area for urban development with great potential. The new district will integrate into the intersection between the western ring area, the Wall, the Oker, and the historical buildings. To address the site as specifically as possible, we propose dividing it into three largely independent development modules that will still be closely interconnected through public spaces.
