This project initially began as a classic renovation and refurbishment project. On site, there was a wooden house from the 1970s and an extension built in solid construction from the 1980s. However, after a thorough examination, it was determined that the wooden house was not worth preserving, which led to the development of the current concept. The character of the extension was maintained, while a replacement building was constructed on the foundation of the former wooden house. The floor plan was optimized and organized around a central, freestanding wall, which on one side houses the kitchen and on the other side a large wardrobe with storage space. The entrance area, living and dining areas, kitchen, and access to the private rooms are connected in a flowing sequence that creates many interesting sightlines. To keep the large glass surfaces open during the summer, the house was equipped with generous canopies that dominate the building’s exterior design. The sloped site, combined with the interplay between the heterogeneous existing buildings and the clear cubic forms of the new construction, results in a highly individual and unique home.
